The NASA Task Load Index (TLX), which is used to measure task load of workers in high-intensity jobs, was used to survey more than 500 nurses to understand the task load of clinical communication. This report details survey results that emerged in five strong themes related to fragmented technology, communication delays, lack of resources fueling workflow complexity, interpersonal challenges and misalignment of purpose imposing barriers.
